How to keep your pets warm & entertained during winter

The winter chill is here! While we enjoy the cosy nights in, our pets might be feeling a little left out. Don't worry, we have some tips to keep your pets warm, comfy, and entertained all winter long!

Keeping them cosy and comfortable:

  • Make sure their sleeping/relaxing area is away from draughts or damp spots. Use soft bedding and place it in a warm & cosy area.
  • For dogs that tolerate clothing, use pet sweaters or coats to help retain body heat during walks or while indoors. Ensure the clothing is well-fitted and made from materials that are comfortable for your pet.

Limit outdoor time:

  • Reduce the amount of time your pets spend outside, especially during extreme cold weather. Short, frequent walks are better than long outings and will keep their tails wagging!
  • Ensure that they are dry and warm upon returning home, especially if they have been in the rain or frost. We know how much some pets like to go for a splash no matter the temperature!

Indoor activities to keep them entertained:

Keeping your pets mentally and physically stimulated is important, especially when outdoor activities are limited. Here are some indoor activities and toys to keep your dogs and cats entertained:

Interactive toys:

Use puzzle feeders and treat-dispensing toys to challenge your pets and keep them engaged. Toys that move or make noise can capture their interest and encourage active play. Marltons Rolling Ball Toy is great for keeping cats and smaller dog breeds entertained for hours!

Engaging games:

Play hide and seek with treats or toys to stimulate your pet's natural hunting instincts. For dogs, tug-of-war and fetch can be adapted for indoor play using soft toys.

Training sessions:

Use the winter months to teach your pets new tricks (yes – old dogs can learn them!) or reinforce basic obedience commands. Short, frequent training sessions provide essential mental stimulation and help strengthen your bond.

Stay warm and enjoy the winter season with your beloved pets – and don't forget that snuggles and cuddles are always great!
