Here are some must-know first aid tips for pets to keep them safe, happy, and healthy!

Spot the warning signs:
Early detection is everything. Knowing what to look out for can help you act fast and potentially prevent a serious issue. Common red flags include:

•    Lethargy or unusual tiredness
•    Excessive panting or drooling
•    Vomiting or diarrhoea
•    Pale or dry gums
•    Limping or difficulty moving
•    Swelling from insect bites or stings
•    Loss of skin elasticity (dehydration)
•    Sunken eyes or dark yellow urine

If your pet shows any of these symptoms and they don't improve quickly, always consult a vet.

Build your First Aid Kit

Every pet owner should have a first aid kit tailored to their pet’s needs. Whether at home or on the go, a well-packed kit makes a huge difference.

First Aid Kit essentials:

•    Cooling products: Pet-safe cooling mats or gel packs
•    Wound care: Antiseptic spray, bandages, gauze
•    Allergy treatment: Anti-itch spray, tweezers for stingers, vet-approved antihistamines
•    Thermometer: For detecting fever or signs of heatstroke
•    Electrolyte solution: Vet-approved hydration boosters
•    Poop bags & gloves: For hygiene on the move

Know what to do:
In an emergency, knowing what not to do is just as important.

Do:
✔ Stay calm and approach your pet gently
✔ Stop bleeding with clean pressure
✔ Use a towel or leash to gently restrain them if needed
✔ Call your vet as soon as possible

Don't:
✘ Give human medication unless advised by your vet
✘ Use ice baths for overheating
✘ Ignore persistent symptoms

Accidents can happen in a heartbeat, but being prepared brings peace of mind.

This month, check your kit, refresh your supplies, and make sure you’re always ready for those just-in-case moments.
